Manchaldore is a small village located in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district in Karnataka state, India. It is 25 km from Gubbi, and 36 km from taluk headquarter Gubbi, and 43 km from Tumkur headquarter, it lies in western part of Tumkur and is at a distance of 121 km from Bangalore. Sira, Madhugiri, Tumkur city and Nelmangla are nearby cities to Manchaldore. Manchaldore has a total area of 273.9 hectares, irrigated land is about 47.7 hectares, non-irrigated land is about 20.32 hectares, about 5 hectares of water covered lake in central part.

Land


There is both dry as well as wet land in Manchaldore, and land here is fertile. And is well used for agriculture. There is small forest in the south west part of Manchaldore some wild varieties of guava can be found here. 2 hill tops or small mountains can be found: Madhaga between Manchaldore and Muchalanahalli and Khrishna kal gudda between Manchaldore and Nallur. Now because of scarcity of water and less rain the land has lost its fertility here.

History


People in this village say that in Manchaldore several centuries ago when people just dug slightly on the surface water would emerge from the soil so people called the place: “Manh-Chala-Thore” meaning ‘water comes out as dug on mud or surface’ and as people pronounced this fast it became Manchaladore. Some people also say that a local king called “Manchala” ruled this place so it was called Manchaladore meaning the place ruled by Manchala. There are many forts like structures located in the hilly areas of Manchaldore, people here say that there were kings who fought the war here during the british rule. some dead bodies were also found in some wells, which confirms this fact. Manchaldore is a village headquarters for 12 nearby villages about inside the 3 kms radius. Recently one of the oldest Temple of Narasimhaswamy was renovated. The Idol was in the form of long stone or udbhava Moorthy, and has a name of Kambada Narasimhaswamy i.e., Narsimha from the pillar, this temple was in bad condition so in year 2000 all villagers of 12 village gathered and formed a committee to renovate and improve the temple. Total main workers are 830 out of which female main workers are 467 and male main workers are 363. Total marginal workers of village are 32.

Agriculture


Ragi, Paddy and Horse Gram are agriculture commodities grow in this village. Groundnut, Chilli, Coconut, Areca nut, Betel nut, Corn, Mango, Cucumber, Channa dal, tamarind are also grown here seasonally. Pottery is Product Manufactured in this village. Total irrigated area in this village is 47.76 hectares from canals 47.76 hectares is the Source of irrigation. The use of sprinklers, drip irrigation is followed in farms. Borewells, wells, and nearby lake is the source of water for farmers here. There are two lakes in the village one in central part named Matad kere another in north-eastern part named Huli kere which is dried up and is filled partially when there is heavy rain. Farmers sell their produce to Tumukur mandi and some farmers sell their produce to local merchants. Because of lack of rain in last few years the yield the farmers get here are decreasing and most farmers are opting crops that require less water to grow. There are no dams or water reservoirs near the village nor there are any rivers passing by so most of farmers rely on borewells and other artificial sources of water. Farmers buy most of the required seeds for growing or harvesting from the government’s agricultural committees located in Tumkur and Chellur. Farmers here are using subsidy facilities of sprinklers and other equipment’s given to them by the government. Most farmers store their harvested crops or produce in or near their houses.

Administration and politics


Village has is panchayat office located in front, its Gram panchayat, Mandal panchayat is governed by local leaders and the secretory appointed by the revenue department of India handles the panchayats working, taluk panchayat comes under Gubbi, headquarter of taluk panchayat is located in Gubbi city.
Polling booth is located in government school of Manchaldore. Earlier the village came under Chitradurga constituency but now it is under Tumkur constituency for M.P elections. People here vote for M.L.A candidate of Gubbi ad the village also comes under Gubbi region for M.L.A elections. The prominent parties here are Congress, JDS and BJP As of 2021: The current M.P is G.S Bsavaraj from B.J.P The current MLA is S.R Shrinivas from J.D.S There is a fairly and heathy competition between Congress, BJP, JDS here. Earlier the ruling M.L.A were from congress and now from the last 2 terms J.D.S has come to power And same goes in M.P election but instead of JDS, BJP has come to power for last 2 terms.

Weather and climate


Weather in Manchaldore is usually warm in most of the time in year there is occasional rain. People say the climate was some what a mix of rainy and warm but as the years have passed the climate has become warm and sometimes the temperature even reaches 38 degrees Celsius at most and normally it is about 29-34 degree Celsius. Manchaldores sunrise time varies from 22 minutes from IST.

  • About 75% of the working population in this village is doing agriculture and agriculture related works, many people in this are engaged jute works, plates and cup making from Areca nut and coconut trading and other copra related works like its trading.
  • Some people also go to other nearby villages to do agricultural works
  • Some people about 5-6% of the working population run shops, do tailoring, and other maintenance works like working as drivers to transport goods or people in local private busses.

To reach Manchaldore in general by public transport: first one has to reach Tumkur main village bus stop from there is a government bus one in the morning and in evening and there are private buses every 2 hours till night to Manchaldore from Tumkur village bus stop. Busses take about 1 to 2 hrs to reach Manchaldore. People mainly use bikes in the village for local transportation, sometimes tempos and lorries are also used for transportations of crops and other materials.

Drinking Water and food


Most people in the village use bore well water for drinking. bore well water is stored in large tank and it is pumped to near by taps so that people can collect and use it domestically, this process is repeated every 3 days. As there is less rain in past few years people are facing water related problems. Most of the people purchase rice and other grains and other consumables from local markets nearby, some people get their ration from Fair price shops located in the village, some people also go to hotels in the village for their hunger necessities.

MIGRATION


As there is a low rain fall in this region from past decade the ponds are being dried up and the place is becoming less suitable for agriculture and also there no major industries of factories near by the village to work, the young population in this village is opting to migrate out of the village and more over more than half of the young population has left the village this has become a major problem in villages development and as population if this village is decreasing day by day peoples or representatives concern for this village is also decreasing and not more has been developing in this village since the last decade.

  • As this village is domesticated animals like cow, goat, sheep, buffalo, donkey, cat, rat, pig, dog, fox, wild boar, porcupine, bear, rabbit, mongoose, can be found inside and in the forest regions of Manchaldore.

  • Roads are well laid in the village, main roads and some part of the inner village has proper roads, there is no road for people to go to there farms which may be in deep inner or in the outskirts of the village.
  • There Krishi hondas set up for water conservation in farms.
  • Electricity facilities (single phase) are said to be given 24 hours but there are occasional power cuts in the village.
  • There are well laid open drainage systems that are functioning well in the village.
  • Awareness for toilets is being spread. Many toilets are built for many houses for village using subsidies and many are even built for free by the Government.

  • There are many houses renovated and constructed with the help of ghrama ashraya yojana.

  • There is mahila sangha setup in form of self-help groups which lends loans to women and many women of this village have got the loan and brought tailoring machines.
  • Gram sevak is appointed by Government gives consultations and other information regarding agriculture and others schemes for villagers, His office is located in Hagalvadi about 5 to 6 kms from Manchaldore.
  • Agricultural loans are given to farmers in this village from Kaveri grameen bank which is a RRB located nearby in Hosakere about 9 kms from Manchaldore.

Problems faced by people and other expectations by the people


  • As the ground water is also depleting in the village people here are asking for water to be channelled from nearby Hemavati river and to refill and develop the two ponds in the village.
  • There is a huge problem related to water a there is low rain fall in this region
  • People also say that road have to be remade as there is potholes and breakdowns etc
  • There are no public toilets in or near by the village
  • There are no ATMs or any bank branch in or near the village
  • There is no ambulance facilities service running near the village and also if people face major problems the have to travel at least 10kms to find a proper hospital
  • There are also no nearby fire stations
  • As there are migration, people of the village fear of lack of development in the future
